Building the 'Foldo' folding dinghy, shake down: |
|
After using the dinghy for the first time, it became apparent that the keel strake is in need of support to prevent twisting. | This was easily contained by adding a strut between thwart and a reinforcing laminate on the keel strake. Note the thwarts are fixed to the support cleats via purpose made screw bolts and wing nuts - stainless steel coach screws welded to the shanks of machine screws. Washers and wing nuts are kept on the screw bolts so as not to loose them. |
After more use, squares of fire hose were glued on the bottom panel to prevent screw bolts and wing nuts marking the plywood. | She moves nicely with a small outboard, the throttle is hardly open... and she rows nicely too. |
