The "IMP"
- a multi-purpose dinghy.

Principal dimensions:

        L.O.A. 4.03 m (13' 2.7")
	Beam 1.59 m (5' 2.6")
	Sail area 6.9 m2 (75 sqft).

She has buoyancy compartments in the enclosed aft side-seats and the forepeak and is generally very spacious and stable.

Construction:
Material: 6mm (1/4") Marine plywood
Method: Epoxy stitch and glue (taped seam)

This dinghy is aimed at the family who enjoys sailing a simple mid-size boat in their home waters. The Imp has a sister, the 'Normus', that can be taken apart and nested for easier transport and storage.
Sailplan
The ply/epoxy "Imp" will weigh about 59kg/130lb if built with Okume ply and is of the single chine type for simplicity of build. The ease of assembly can be seen in the Pinta assembly animation ..

Sails:
For this dinghy I designed a standing lug rig. The lug rig is one of the simplest as well as effective rigs. Lug rigs have good performance to windward and the main whether boomless or with sprit boom, has good head room which makes for a safe cockpit. Excellent for recreational sailing!

The standing rigging consists of a mast, which just slips into the boat without any shrouds or stays and a yard and an optional sprit boom for more performance on the wind.

All spars are simple 'poles' that can be made from standard aluminum pipes or alernatively timber depending on preference.

Propulsion:
With its long waterline length, the 'Imp' will be easy to row, so I recommend fitting rowlocks at the mid thwart.
For longer hauls of course an outboard can be fitted. The transom height is suitable for a short shaft outboard motor.
Suggested power: 3.3-6 HP, max. 15HP.

The plan shows how much space the boat offers for a family. Note the long side seats and a good rowing position on the mid-thwart. PLAN
