Cleats keep the transoms in place, i.e. stop them going inwards. The PVC transom prevents outward movement. This cleat on the keel strake has a lip which allows the mating part of the transom to slip under and thereby locates the transom vertically.

Bow transom: three cleats locate the plywood part. Cleats for the transom being glued in, note the Velcro strips (4) on the PVC.

Close up on topside cleat for transom. Transom has two stiffeners glued on to allow outboard installation later on.

Thwart support cleats have been glued on and gunnel dry fit is in progress. Gunnels are 32x14 Meranti, glued on using lots of clamps. Gunnel strips must be glued on in 'open' position, if glued on while flat, it would make the panels too stiff for opening up.

After clamps have been removed. Next the gunnels will be finished by rounding off with the router and sanding. The boat was then turned over and epoxy seal coats applied to the outside.
