Building the 'Sinbad 2' kit - continued: |
|
The keel hog/floor stiffener bedded in epoxy thickened with some wood floor and Aerosil. | Seat box edge rounded off before glassing the outside seams. |
The seat stringers to be fitted to the topsides are notched on the circular saw. | Dry run fitting the stringers. Spreaders are wedged between seat riser and stringer. The seat tops are used to judge the curvature of the topsides and spreaders are cut to ensure a good fit. |
Glass tapes made ready for the chine and seat box external seams. | The stringers were glued in and wedged after the glassing was finished. Note the top of the riser is backed up with a sturdy 45x32. |
A view from the top: all seams glassed and the stringers glued in. | Close up of stringer, showing one of three panel pins that help locate the stringer during gluing. The pins only stick out 2mm, just to let the points grip. |
Cross bearers are fitted next. The CNC-cut seat tops are slightly oversize to allow fit up to actual curve of topside. | The tops overlap the inside edge which will be trimmed with a flush trim bit and rounded off. It helps to trim back and pre-round the edges near the topsides and transom as the router cannot get there. |
