Building the 'Sinbad 2' kit - continued: |
|
The two bottom panels are wired up along the keel and laid into the molds. | The topsides follow and are wired in place along the chines. |
Transom and mid bulkhead were fitted next. At right a close up of the mid bulkhead. Small particle board screws were driven into the edge of the plywood and the solid timber (carefully pre-drilled!). | Wire ties would have been more problematic. The bulkhead is then epoxy glued to the hull panels. Having a screwed connection makes this easy. The screws locate and hold the parts together till the glue has set. |
Trial run to check fit of seat boxes. The temporary spreader with transverse seatrisers attached was tested but found unnecessary. | Again, small particle board screws screwed into the edges of the plywood panels worked well. During assembly a single tie was used to hold the two risers together where they meet to form a corner. |
Looking forward: Seat box inside seams. | Ditto looking aft. Transom seam has been glassed at the same time. |
The mid bulkhead was glassed next and then the keel seam. | The keel seam will be capped with another floor stiffener acting as a keel hog. A shallow, flat fillet makes it easier to bed the keel hog down. |
