A lot of clamps are required, most of them are home made ones made from timber and thread bar. | Here the second lamination goes on. Note a single screw at the stem locates the port side strip which is shaped so when the starbaord side strip goes on it overlaps herring bone style. |
The molds have cut-outs that support the long timber strips till all the clamps are on. Clamping progresses from the bow. | Both sides installed and clamped. Note that the stem has been glassed on the outside. The same was done at the transom. The gunnel must go on over the glassed joints. |
A close up of the forward end of the gunnel with both outer laminations glued on. | Templating the aft seat top. Again using hardboard pieces and ply scrap. |
Gunnel trimmed flat prior to rounding off. | The gunnel adds a lot to the looks of a dinghy, still needs to be shaped and rounded off though. |
Close up of the stem end of the gunnel after a first rough shaping. | The top of the daggerboard case cantilevers off the midbulkhead and seat. To make it stronger, solid timber doubling ties into the seat structure. |
