Building the 'Sinbad 2' kit - continued: |
|
Close up of bow transom glassed. The plywood sides and bottom overlap sufficiently so there is no need for filling, just rounding off. | The glass edges have to be scraped to fair in. Note the two holes visible through the glass to assist marking out the rough slot to be cut later and the pencil lines added before the glassing. |
Glass tapes faired in and weave filled in. | Both halves ready for fairing with filler paste prior to sheathing of bottom. |
The filler paste includes French chalk, which makes it easy to sand. | Glass cloth pre-cut to cover bottom and chines. Glass weight is 120g/m2 (4oz). |
Epoxy is worked through from the top. The minimum of resin is used, just enough to wet the glass out. | Where the cloth ends on the topsides it needs a little scraping and then the first coat of resin to fill the weave is applied. |
The aft section was done next... | Now the sheathing is finished, the dagger board slot can be cut. First a few holes are drilled to allow the jig (saber) saw to enter. Cut the long sides at the angle of hull bottom, drill multiple holes on the short sides to avoid cutting into the case. |
